Request for funding to print motivational posters for learners Ref:G.P. Motaung 244 Noko Street Boikhutso Lichtenburg, 2740 NORTH WEST PROVINCE Cell: 072 324 9238 e-mail:papatjie@ananzi.co.za The Director Sir/Madam SUBJECT: PROPOSAL- REQUEST FOR FUNDING TO PRINT, DISTRIBUTE AND POST ‘MOTIVATIONAL POSTERS FOR LEARNERS’, SPECIFICALLY AND ESPECIALLY IN ALL TOWNSHIP AND RURAL SCHOOLS’ CLASSROOMS COUNTRYWIDE: TO HELP RAISE A GENERATION OF SELF CONFIDENT, FOCUSED, DARING, DETERMINED AND FULFILLED ACHIEVERS, TO REVOLUTIONISE EDUCATIONAL, SOCIAL, MORAL AND FINANCIAL EXCELLENCE BEYOND 2010, TO HELP MAKE CURRENT LEARNERS MENTALLY, PHYSICALLY, SPIRITUALLY, EMOTIONALLY AND FINANCIALLY HEALTHY AND WEALTHY IN 2020, TO REINVIGORATE THE SPIRIT OF UBUNTU, TO MAKE THE LEGACY OF HAVING HOSTED THE WORLD CUP IN 2010, INSTILL IN EACH INDIVIDUAL LEARNER THE KNOWLEDGE AND BELIEF THAT NOT EVEN THE SKY IS THE LIMIT, TO ENSURE THAT THIS BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW NATION DOES NOT END UP LIKE MANY AFRICAN NATIONS THAT FAILED TO PROSPER TWENTY YEARS AFTER INDEPENDENCE, TO LEAVE A LEGACY WHICH CANNOT BE QUANTIFIED IN TERMS OF RANDS AND CENTS FOR OUR COUNTRY AND THE COMING GENERATIONS. NOTING The dependency syndrome and or the insistent and persistent ‘right to benefit’ from government grants, schemes and youth development programmes, the general lack of (a) financial skills and (b) the know-how to be creators of their own destiny, general inertia, a lack of enthusiasm, initiative, going the extra mile and foresight, a lack of morals and disrespect for the law, the rife unemployment, which leads to the general low self-esteem, discontent and the ‘us’ and ‘them’ carefree attitude, the treatment of sex issues and all its ramifications in a lax manner by many of our youth, the general disinterest in education and all it stands for, disinterest in doing school work and reading school books, let alone self help, motivational or financial skills books, endemic in our kids/teens/youth countrywide. 2. KNOWING FROM RESEARCH AND EXPERIENCE That the power of subtle advertising can have massively beneficial outcomes, that motivating kids/teens/youth continually can have extremely beneficial effects, even in ‘this-one-can-never-be-better-children’, that the pilot ‘TWELVE COMMANDMENTS FOR MY SUCCESS’ posted on the walls at the school where I teach: (iv) is busy helping to improve discipline (v) is steadily making self-discipline gain popularity among our learners, (vi) is instilling (a) financial savvy among our learners and (b) making saving second nature to them, I HEREBY PROPOSE The printing of 45x40 cm posters, titled according grades: TWELVE COMMANDMENTS FOR MY SUCCESS, gr 8-12 (14) MY GREAT SUCCESS IN TWELVE YEARS, grades 5-7, (7) MY SUCCESS IN GRADE TWELVE, grades 1-4, (6 posters) * for lower grades, there is also a mother tongue version, in a stylish, colourful, kid/teen/youth attention-grabbing format, that same be distributed specifically and especially in township and rural schools, that same be put above all chalkboards, in all classes, in all township and rural schools, that learners be encouraged by educators to silently read schools mentioned above, these as often as possible, that we be given an opportunity to travel around schools emphasizing that they can bring in our kids/teens/ youth and later adults, a sense of (a) self-confidence (b) morality (c) health (d) wealth and (e) exceptional money management skills, and an ingrained conscientiousness to fight and overcome (a) STD’s (b) HIV-AIDS and (c) teenage pregnancy (d) smoking, (e) drug and (f) alcohol abuse. IN CONCLUSION This will in the long-term help especially our township kids/teens/youth to be: - a disciplined, determined and focused workforce throughout our country, - financially expedient, - morally incorruptible, - healthy, wealthy and - highly confident leaders of our future. The cherry on top will be: - A BOOST TO OUR ECONOMY, - a shackless, beautiful and prosperous country enjoyed by all its citizens and envied by the international community. LEST WE FORGET: ALL EYES WILL BE ON US, THE FIRST GREAT AFRICAN COUNTRY TO SHALL HAVE HOSTED THE WORLD CUP IN 2010. The success of this pilot project will be jointly owned by all grade 1-12 learners, should it start being put into operation from 2007. I dare you, sir/madam, that with a no holds barred roll-out of this project, we shall by 2020, all have changed the face of South Africa and thus really proudly South African. Yours truly, GREGORY PAPATJIE MOTAUNG Author Please find attached the samples of posters to be printed, starting with: TWELVE COMMANDMENTS FOR MY SUCCESS, GRADES 8-12 , 14 POSTERS, MY GREAT SUCCESS IN TWELVE YEARS, GRADES 5-7, 7 POSTERS. SOMETHING FOR THE TEACHERS I believe we teachers, also need motivation as there is so much negativity, lethargy, - discontent about certain appointments to senior posts, declaration of some ‘johnny come latelies’ as senior teachers, haphazard changing of the curriculum without sufficient training, parents’ lacklustre attitude towards their children’s education and the children’s devil may care attitude towards their future. DO I CONTRIBUTE TO HIS/HER GRADE TWELVE SUCCESS? 1. Do I praise my learner/s at least once a day? 2. Do I think positive thoughts about him/her and encourage achievements? 3. Do I treat him/her as a worthwhile member of our class? 4. Am I available when s/he wishes to talk to me? 5. Do I include him/her in classroom plans and decisions? 6. Do I set reasonable guidelines and insist that s/he follows them? 7. If I tell him/her to do something, do I take time to help him/her understand why I want him/her to do it, instead of saying “because I say so”? 8. Do I treat my learners equally? 9. Do I treat my learners the way I treat my best friends? 0. Do I set a good example for my learners? 1. Does s/he hear me apologise when I am wrong? 2. Do I talk to him/her about my emotions and help him/her learn to control his/her emotions? ©Gregory P.Motaung 01.01.2006. ©YES, I AM A COOL TEACHER, 9 OUT OF 10 © I believe in letting my learner speak his/her mind in a respectful and truthful manner. I listen to his/her point of view as much as possible. We have a democratic classroom and discuss all issues in a respectable manner. I try to remind myself that it is not always about what I want, but how I can help him/her make the most of himself/herself. I try to remember that any age s/he is developing his/her personality and I try to give him/her space and encouragement to do so. I try to remember what it was like to be his/her age. I try to remember that everything is not the same as when I was his/her age, like having cellphones and wanting more freedom. I praise my learners everyday. Praising him/her gives him/her confidence, the greatest gift I can give my learners. I do things with my learners, it is the best way to get to know them. ©Gregory P. Motaung 01.01.2006 In the final analysis, indeed, a rigorous revamping, needs to be undertaken regarding the situation in township and rural schools. I strongly believe that this project, once rolled out, will - get learners talking and taking their future seriously, - prick the parents’ consciences to take their rightful place in seeing to their children’s education, - and get teachers to conscientiously and dutifully teach and treat all learners like their very own children, to the creation of a wholly confident ,determined, disciplined and focused generation, the success of all, (c) the fulfilment of everyone’s destiny, (d) the ridding of all poverty and (e) the health and wealth for all in South Africa, our great country, alive with possibilities.
